“It was a good time.”

I have so many things to write about: graduation, my trip to San Francisco, writing my book, and a half dozen other topics I periodically formulate in my head. But today I would like to say a few things about summer.

One year ago I started to get sick. If you are familiar with the story that unfolded in my life last summer, you know what I’m talking about. It was the beginning of some ugly stuff. At the time, I was living with a friend who was also going through some challenges in her life. When we talk about this period in our lives, we always say, “It was not a good time.” It really was not. In fact, it was basically the opposite of good.

Now, a year later, I’m in a job I truly enjoy, my health is good, and I have a master’s degree. It’s amazing what can be accomplished in a year. There are all kinds of clichés I could spout about the resilience of the human spirit and all of that, but I’m not going to.

I’m reveling in the knowledge that a year from now I’ll look back on this summer and confidently say:

It was a a good time.
