I work too hard for my money…

I recently took a lovely trip to San Francisco with my lovely and thin friend, Shauna. It was my first time in the bay area and I really enjoyed it. San Francisco is a fantastic city! We stayed in a dive hotel just at the entrance to China Town. Great location, not so great bed, but whatever! We were so exhausted from walking around all day we never really cared about the less than stellar hotel room. In defense of the Asoria (where we stayed), while it wasn’t high-quality, it was impeccably clean, which was much appreciated. And the water pressure was great. It sucks having a crappy shower, and that was not the case here. I’d actually stay there again.

Anyway, I’d like to highlight the trip with a few photos and anecdotes:

This is the view out our hotel window. There were no screens or bars. I could easily have committed suicide from our hotel window on the 4th floor.

100_0524  Shauna and I are kind of different from each other… on the left is her bag of makeup for a 3 day weekend. On the right is mine. As you can see, I tend to pack lighter. I wish I had a picture of her suitcase. It was amazing.

I realize this picture is kind of small, but if you look you will see a man strangely arching his leg into the air. We’re not quite sure why, but this guy chose the pier as the perfect spot to do some stretching. It was quite strange. He held that leg in the air for quite a while, too. I couldn’t figure out if he had some type of hamstring injury or if he was just completely out of his mind.

We went to see Wicked. It was so incredibly amazing. In fact, I can only describe it accurately using the word mesmerizing. If you haven’t seen it, find a way. It’s fantastic.

This is Shauna and I at AT&T Park, home of the Giants. They happened to be playing the Diamondbacks, so it was a fun game. Here’s where my rant starts about the fact that I work too hard for my paycheck. Chad Qualls, one of the D-backs closing pitchers, gave up this game with his horrible pitching. I won’t even look up stats on him because it will just make me angry. The point is, about half the time he completely fails at his job. He’s supposed to close the game and not give up runs. Half the time he throws out meatballs and walks players in for runs. It is ridiculous. If I performed that poorly at my job, I wouldn’t last a month, but for some reason he’s still getting called up to ruin everything. I can’t even imagine how much the rest of the team hates him. All of their hard work in 8 innings ruined so many times. It is not good. Fortunately, the rest of my experience at AT&T park was fantastic! The park has an amazing view, we had great seats, and the staff were all spectacular. The food was good and Giants fans are amazing. My only complaint is that the signage was less than adequate.

Alcatraz was really cool. The fog was rolling in on our way out on the boat, so it was a very classic San Francisco scene. The island was cool, although we didn’t have tons of time to do everything. We did tour the jail, which was definitely interesting. I wanted it to be more creepy, but that’s alright.

Here’s the other thing about San Francisco: there are street performers and random people everywhere. Here’s my second rant about how I apparently work far to hard for my paycheck. We were walking down the street one day and this random guy has set out a cup for money and there’s a plastic crate and some branches on the ground. I turn to Shauna and say, “What, is this guy pruning one the street for money? I’m supposed to pay him because he can trim bushes?!” We laughed and kept walking. Later, on our way back, we saw that this man had attached the branches to his crate and was hiding behind it, jumping out and scaring people, and that’s what you’re supposed to give him money for. There’s a fine line between genius and stupidity, and I’m not quite sure which side this guy was on.

Overall, this was a fantastic trip. I really think I could make a living as a street performer, or even as a closing pitcher. Apparently marketable skills aren’t necessary in procuring payment. It’s an interesting situation.

Ditto to everything you said.
A couple of things I would like to add...
1. That was the best tri-tip on the Planet! (the sandwhich in the picture).
2. Although the food that we ate was amazing, it was not always easy to find.
3. Thank you for calling me thin!
4. In response to Cortney, or anyone who was wondering, I did wear makeup, and lots of it, every day.
5. I looked up Qualls stats. While his current ERA is 8.88 he actually has blown fewer saves than I thought, and actually 50% would not be accurate. He has saved 12 games out of a possible 16. However, he is still terrible, and if he comes in and it is a tie, or the dbacks are down, and he does not keep them where they are, it was not a save opportunity, so the numbers are not everything.
